I'm N. Burchett, and I write short fiction about the strange, unusual, and odd along with historical fiction stories. I'm a Midwesterner in the United States who has always been on a quest for knowledge and enjoys everything from tech to the simple pleasures of reading a good story.
Why history and oddity?
The longer I spend with old records, county histories, and family stories, the more I find things that don't add up: the disappearance nobody explained, the light seen on the same road for a hundred years. History is full of loose threads. Some of my stories follow those threads with care, and others follow them into the dark.
About the stories
History stories are fiction set against real places and events. Where the record is solid, I try to honor it. Where it's silent, I invent.
Oddities are stories of the strange and unexplained. Some draw on folklore or local legend, and all of them are fiction, even when they feel otherwise.
